The best variety of poplar tree in India is 110 followed by 109. Both of these varieties grow almost at similar times, having almost similar diameters. Both these varieties take only 3.5 years from the planting period to mature.  A 10-month or 1-year-old plant is picked from the nursery and planted on the farm. 

When it is planted in the main field it takes around 3.5 years to 4 years to get ready for harvesting. The poplar tree growth time depends on the variety and other aspects including spacing, fertilizer, irrigation etc. Both 109 and 110 are hybrid varieties.

In comparison to 109, the 110 variety is the premium and most successful hybrid variety of poplar trees. At present 110  is the best variety of poplar tree in India. It takes only 3.5 years to 4 years to mature. At this time it maintains a diameter of a round 2.5 feet (30 inches) to 3 feet. At this time, this variety reaches a height of 65 to 75 feet. 

Some of the different types of poplar trees grown by farmers are g48, 86, 107, Udai, W 22, A 26, S 7, W 39, W 32, W 101, W 109, W 81, C 15, 108 etc. In the last 3 to 4 years most farmers are growing 110 and 109 varieties. However, 111 and 112 varieties also came in the market but farmers are doing the cultivation of 110 in priority and some are also planting 109 varieties.

Poplar tree cost per kg is between Rs 8 to Rs 15. The price is not fixed and it may go up and down depending on the market. From the last 2 to 3 years to till date, the price is constant between Rs 1200 per quintal to Rs 1500 per quintal. However, in the past, the price of poplar trees per quintal was Rs 700 as well.
