Palm oil plantation profit per hectare per acre

In 3 to 4 years 5 tons of palm oil yield per hectare is achievable. Palm oil plantation profit per hectare could be around Rs 2,14,500 by investing Rs 1,98,000. The yield grows every year and in 4 to 5 years 10-12 tons is expected.

Palm oil’s scientific name is Elaeis guineensis belonging to the Arecaceae family, a genus of Elaeis. The palm oil plant is one of the highest edible oil-yielding plants in the world. It is also known as golden palm due to its high oil-building capacity.

Palm oil plantation profit per hectare per acre

By investing Rs 76,0000 an average of Rs 2,14,500 is expected after 3 years. Sapling cost, land preparation cost, Labour cost, fertilizer cost, pesticide cost, irrigation cost, weed removal cost, plant protection charges and miscellaneous cost are included in the total cost of Rs Rs 198,000. Palm oil plantation price per acre along with other expenses might be around Rs 30,000 and profit might be around Rs 2,14,500.

Project Report

Cost per hectare

  • Sapling cost = Rs 5000.
  • Land preparation cost = Rs 10,000.
  • Labour cost = Rs 10,000.
  • Fertilizer cost = Rs 5000.
  • Pesticide cost = Rs 5000.
  • Irrigation cost = Rs 20,000.
  • Weed removal cost = Rs 5000.
  • Plant protection charges = Rs 6000.
  • Miscellaneous cost = Rs 10,000.
  • Total cost = Rs 76,000.
  • The tree starts yielding after 3 years therefore we are calculating the cost for 3 years.
  • To get 3 years cost
  • Reduce one-time investment from the 1st year cost.
  • 1 time investment = Sapling cost + land preparation cost.
  • 1 time investment = Rs 5000 + Rs 10,000 = Rs 15,000.
  • 1st year cost is Rs 76,000.
  • Cost = Rs 76,000 – Rs 15000 = Rs 61000.
  • Now multiply Rs 61000 with 2 years and after that add 1st year cost.
  • 3 year cost = Rs 61000 x 2 years = Rs 122,000.
  • Total 3 year cost = Rs 122000 + 76000 = Rs 198000.
  • Total 3-year cost = Rs 198,000.

Palm oil plantation profit per hectare

  • Palm oil per hectare after 3 years = 5 to 8 tons.
  • Let’s take the average yield of 5.5 tons.
  • 5.5 tons = 5500 kg.
  • Palm oil price per kg in India = Rs 50, Rs 70, Rs 100 to Rs 200 or more accordingly.
  • Let’s take the average price of Rs 75/kg.
  • Now multiply the total 3 years yield (5500 kg) by palm oil price (Rs 75).
  • Palm oil profit per hectare = Rs 75 x 5500 kg.
  • Profit per hectare = Rs 4,12,500.
  • Net Profit = Cost Rs 1,98,000 – profit Rs 4,12,500 = Rs 2,14,500.
  • Net Profit = Rs 2,14,500.

So this is the palm oil plantation profit per hectare.
Note – It is the assumption of the project report and the actual profit and cost may differ according to the market, quality, quantity and availability.

Palm oil cultivation practices

Varieties

Tenera, Termed dura, Pisifera.

Climate

Thrives best in humid conditions, 5 to 6 hours of bright sunlight per day, needs 80% humidity.

Temperature – 22°C to 24°C.

Water requirement

Rainfall – 2500 mm to 4000 mm per year. Assured rainfall conditions required to enhance the palm oil yield. Drip irrigation can be used for water management in the farm.

Soil need

It is a soil-friendly crop and easily grows in a wide range of soil. Soils preferred for palm oil farming are deep loamy moist soil with good drainage, rich organic matter soil and alluvial soils. Avoid high alkaline soil, high saline soil, water stagnation and coastal sandy soil.

Propagation method

Generally, seeds and saplings are used for propagating this plant.

Seeds – Seeds preheating is done 70-75 days at 40°C before the sewing process. After that, they are soaked in running water and cooled down for 4 to 5 days. After 10 to 12 seeds are germinated.

Seedling – Select the healthy plant cutting from the healthy mother plant. The seedling should be 12 to 15 months old, having around 15 leaves.

Land preparation

Two or more times ploughing is required for land levelling and preparation. The weed removal process is done regularly. To make the soil rich provide good organic matter to the soil resulting in better quality and higher palm oil yield.

Palm oil trees per acre

60 to 80 palm oil trees per acre in a triangular planting method.

Palm oil trees per hectare

145 to 147 plants, spacing 9m x 9m x 9m and pit size 60 cm x 60 cm x 60 cm.

Planting season – June to December.

Fertilizer

Rich soil + 400 single super phosphate + 50 gram phorate. Divide the fertilizer in 3-month intervals 4 equal split doses. In 2nd dose apply green manure FYM 75 to 100 kg and 5 kg neem cake.

Harvesting

Harvesting is done in approximately 3 years from the planting period.
