Poplar tree fertilizers that make stems 35 inches thick are DAP, Super & Potash with pesticide. Trees with 35 inch stems are harvested in 4 years only.
Fertilizer for poplar trees are super, potash and DAP, commonly used. Either give super + potash together or DAP alone. If fertilizer is given correctly in time the tree may reach 35 to 38 inches in 4 to 4.5 years. Know the correct time, method, and names of fertilzer for poplar trees to achieve a good dimension, weight and height.
Quick overview: Fertilizers are super and potash with insecticide, or use DAP with insecticide, install hybrid variety called 110 for fast growth, give fertilizer 2 times in a year with correct method & quantity.
Poplar is among the most profitable trees to grow in India, England, and other countries.
Poplar tree fertilizer that make stem 35 inches thicker in 4 years
There are few fertilisers that grow tree stems from 4 inch to 35 inches thicker in 4 years. When you buy a poplar cuttings of 4 to 6 or 8 inches it’s your dream to make it around 35-36 inches wider.
However, alone fertilizers cant make it possible to reach 35 inch stems. It can be possible with correct ferlizers, timings, quantity, fertilizer giving method, and care.
Fertilizer for poplar trees
DAP – Increases over all health.
Super & Potash – Increases plant health
Pesticide – Required with DAP or super potash to kill and reduce pests & insects in the initial stage.
Don’t give dap, super potash together. Give super potash without dap or give only dap. Add insecticide to reduce pest harm in the initial stage.
Fertilizer quantity for 50 to 60 trees: 3 kg super + 3 kg potash and 1 kg pesticide is sufficient for 50 to 60 trees. Or 6 kg DAP + 1 kg insecticide.
Fertilizer quantity in 1acre for 300 trees: Around 35 to 40 kg fertilizer is required in 1 acre for around 280 to 320 plants.
Tips to achieve 35 inches stem of your poplar
Start with land preparation, add cow dung organic fertilizer as per the land size. Then give DAP and pesticides during plantation, and water in sufficient amounts.
After planting try multicrop within 2 weeks to make the land more fertile. In Uttarakhand farmers usually grow barsi (animal fodder) with popular plants in the beginning. After that plant sugarcane and later wheat or other crops as per your places climate conditions.
Multi cropping will improve the soil health resulting in good plant health. Most importantly correct practices are required that are given in the section below.
Correct method to give fertilizer to poplar trees
If you will apply below methods with correct distance, water and timings your trees may reach 35 to 36 inches stem diameter in 4 to 4.5 years.
Land preparation before giving fertlizer
Dig a circle 2 to 2.5 feet far from the root of the tree. The circle could be 3 inches deeper around the tree from the root. Make sure no grass is covering the root or lower portion of the tree.
Fertilizer giving method
After the circle is made, mix DAP with pesticide or super and potash with pesticide. Don’t give fertilizer directly on the root or closer to the root. Must spread fertilizer in the circle dug 3 inches. Then make sure to cover the mud over the fertilizer.
If you leave without covering the fertiliser with mud, then high chances the fertiliser gas will be lost in air or fertilzer can be moved away with the wind. You can buy cheap fertilizer for poplar trees or any crop from KSK centers.
Watering time
It is necessary to give water after giving fertilizer on the same day or within 2 days to avoid fertilizer loss. Water helps fertlizer to dissolve deeply inside mud and make fertilizer qualities to reach to the roots.
Fertilizer giving time in a year
The rainy season or pre rainy season is the recommended season to give fertilizer to poplar trees. So, the trees can get a sufficient amount of water after getting fertiliser.
Generally fertilizer for poplar trees is required 2 times in a year, once in monsoon then in winters.
Poplar growth rate
Poplar grows around 22 to 25 feet taller after 1 year from the plantation with an average 13 to 15 inches stem. The height increases around 35 to 45 feet after 2 to 2.5 years with average stem size of 18 to 23 or 25 inches.
After 3.5 years the tree grows to 50 to 60 feet taller with an average 26 to 28 or 30 inches stem.
Poplar tree growth rate depends on the quality of fertilizer, care, watering, and most importantly variety and distance of the tree.
Distance
13 x 13, 12 x 14, 14 x 15 are ideal for poplar plantation. With 13 x 13 you can easily plant around 300 to 320 trees in one acre.
The correct variety and distance with correct timely fertilizer, watering and care makes a tree stem grow up to 35 to 38 inches in 4 to 4.5 years.
Variety
109 or 110 variety is the best, for poplar planting. See the video showing 110 varieties with 35 inches stem.
Poplar tree life span
Poplar tree life expectancy is average 15 to 70 years. Some species live around 200 years as well. Whereas commercial poplar varieties like 109, 110, & g48 are often harvested after 4 to 7 years.
How fast do poplar trees grow
Poplar tree maturity time is ideally 4 to 5 years, some may take 7 to 9 years. The maturity depends on the variety, earlier the g48 variety was taking 7 to 8 years to get ready for harvesting.
Now, the hybrid poplar varieties 110 and 109 need only 4 to 4.5 years to mature. So, the maturity time also depends on the variety of the tree.
Conclusion: Super, potash and DAP are common fertlizers for poplar trees. Use super and potash together or use DAP. The correct timing, care and fertilizer giving method enhances the stem diameter, tree height & overall health.
