In feb heavy wind flow starts, that is not able to disturb tiny 6 inch cuttings but shakes 1 year old plants. The atmosphere helps cuttings develop a strong root system before spring growth begins.

During late winter in Feb month the air temperature remains chilly & the soil begins to warm up gradually. This specific environment from mid January to the whole February month triggers root growth (rhizogenesis) without pushing out leaves prematurely.

When the warm spring weather arrives the cutting already develops newly formed roots to support its rapid top growth. Planting cuttings in the correct months reduces the drying or collapse chances and the tree grows good and fast.

How to plant poplar cuttings in field

Make sure in 6 inch cuttings 1 bud is above the field and minimum 2 inside the field. If you leave 2 buds in the cuttings upper portion over the ground then the tree will grow in two directions and the tree may discover a bad shape that grows here and there instead of straight which slows the tree growth.

While keeping 2 buds at the above portion later when the tree grows you have to cut the wrong direction branches, so it’s better to remove that in the beginning. Read the full details of the correct way to plant cuttings here.

Poplar trees are deciduous perennial plants that go through winter dormancy, they aren’t permanent dormant.
