Fresh perilla is put in that hole and villagers use to crush it to separate it from the plant branches and collect the seeds. Sometimes they also make its powder by crushing it for longer in the same hole and they are also able to make perilla seeds oil through this process.

If you visit Uttarakhand villages you will see the holes in almost all houses’ lawn as most houses are older made with stones and woods.
